Our July Speaker is Marcia Brandes and the topic will be “Andes Adventure: Atacama Desert in Chile to the Uyuni Salt Flats of Bolivia”!
This photo journey was an amazing trek from the Atacama Desert in Chile across the Andes to the Uyuni Salt Flats of Bolivia. Led by Katsu Tanaka, a Nikon professional photographer, Marcia and 3 other photo enthusiasts traveled from Santiago, Chile to the driest desert in the world, then across the Andes to the salt flats of Bolivia. During the course of the journey, which reached altitudes of 16,000 feet, they encountered giant dunes, other-worldly geography, roadless paths over the mountains known only to the local drivers, and vegetation only seen at high altitudes.
With vicuna, llamas, and flamingos for company, they arrived at the Uyuni Salt Flats during the wet season, experiencing remarkable sunsets and sunrises while photographing in knee-high boots miles from shore. Come along on a visual journey of remote and exotic geography with Marcia as she recounts the highs and lows of her Andean adventure.
What will we learn:
How to plan for and enjoy high altitude travel.
When and where to photograph in high altitude Chile.
What it is like crossing the Andes without actual roads.
How to handle your equipment while photographing in 6 inches of saltwater.
