Our December Speaker is Lindsey Cooper and the topic will be "Cumberland Island through the Twin Lens"!
In this presentation, members will learn about Cumberland Island and its history through the use of multiple cameras. Lindsey will talk primarily about the Rolleiflex 3.5f, which is a one-of-a-kind twin lens reflex camera made in 1956. The camera was popularized in the modern day by use of the influential but mysterious nanny and photographer Vivian Maier, who always carried one with her.
Members will be able to look through the viewfinder of Lindsey’s personal Rolleiflex and browse through a book of Vivian Maier's work. Members will also enjoy learning about Cumberland Island, which is one of the only places left in the United States where feral horses roam free. It is also known as the island once inhabited by generations of Carnegies and Rockefellers, starting with the matriarch Lucy Carnegie.
What will we learn:
How to use a Twin Lens Reflex Camera
A summary of the history of Cumberland Island
How to navigate taking photos on a remote island with no motorized vehicles allowed
