April 23, 2022: Gibbs Gardens | Field Trip

Spring has sprung! Join us at Gibbs Gardens!


Time to get outside to enjoy fresh air and beautiful flowers. You are invited to join PCPC for a very colorful Field Trip to Gibbs Gardens on April 23rd. Possible blooms will include azaleas, tulips, dogwoods and other flowers. Our leader will be Horace Hamilton. Horace is a very accomplished photographer that enjoys sharing his knowledge with others. He is quite familiar with Gibbs Gardens. We hope to see you there!


Here are the details—and note that this trip is limited to members: those who have paid their 2022 annual dues.


Field Trip Details:

  • Location: 1987 Gibbs Dr Ball Ground, GA 30107

  • Date: Saturday, April 23, 2022

  • Time: 9:05 AM (Vehicle gates will open at 9:00 AM)

  • Duration: 3 to 4 Hours

  • Meeting Point: We’ll meet in the parking lot next to the entrance to the Gardens.

  • Ticket Pricing: Tickets for admission are $20 for ages 18-64 and $18 for ages 65+. Highly recommended that individuals purchase tickets online to avoid lines. Carry a printed copy of your ticket or have it on your phone for scanning. Buy ticket here: Tickets | Gibbs Gardens


Additional Information:

  • Photography Equipment: Recommended but not required Tripod/Monopod, wide to moderate length lenses, Macro lens, Polarizer and Neutral Density Filters. NOTE: Please follow any posted signs regarding the areas where tripods can be placed. If you choose, you can usually be quite successful at Gibbs Gardens handholding your camera.

  • Other Supplies: Water, sunscreen, rain gear, walking stick (trails include some uneven ground)

  • Subjects: Various types of flowers in bloom, Grandchildren’s Sculpture Garden, Fern garden.

  • Terrain: Generally flat but does have some contours. Grounds are typically well groomed. The gardens covers a large area so a fair amount of walking can be expected.

  • Special Notes: Tram is not expected to be operational at the time of our visit. If tickets are not used on this day they can be used anytime throughout the year. Vehicle gates will open at 9:00 AM, it is recommended individuals be in line to enter when the vehicle gates open so we are able to meet Horace at 9:05 am. Masks are not required but are highly recommended inside Arbor Café and Welcome Center.

Gibbs Gardens is located less than one hour north of Atlanta in the triangle between Interstate I-575 and SR 400. You will enter Gibbs Gardens off of Yellow Creek Road in Cherokee County, from Hwy 53 to the north or SR 369 to the south.
