Join us for the March Technical Webinar: "What Judges Look For In Photo Contests" with Joshua Galicki!

The March Technical Webinar speakers will be Joshua Galicki, and the topic will be "What Judges Look For In Photo Contests." The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 6:30 pm.

In this presentation, Josh will share insights from his experience judging international photography competitions and discuss what truly makes an image stand out in a contest environment.

While technical quality is important, judges are often drawn to photographs that combine strong composition, compelling light, and a clear visual story. Images that feel original or show a fresh perspective tend to rise above the thousands of submissions that judges review.

He will also discuss common pitfalls that can hurt otherwise strong photographs such as excessive saturation or over-processing that make an image feel artificial, following trends seen repeatedly on social media, or failing to meet the specific rules and theme of a competition.

Ultimately, the photographs that score highest are those that feel intentional, authentic, and visually memorable, while connecting emotionally with the viewer.

In this session, we’ll learn:

  • some new ways of thinking about the photos that you submit for contests and competitions

  • how to choose your best photos

  • how to make them stand out to the judges.
