Time to Get Ready for Our First Field Trip!

We’ve put together an outstanding trip combining close proximity, a beautiful dam with a 30-foot waterfall, a charming covered bridge over Vickery Creek, scenic trails, and historic remnants of structures and machinery dating from the Civil War period.


Here are the details—and note that this trip is limited to members: those who have paid their 2022 annual dues. Many thanks to Everett Sizemore (Field Trips Chair) and David Dunagan (Trip Leader) for organizing this outing.

  • Types of Photography: Landscapes, Waterscapes, Architecture, Macro/Close-up, People

  • Additional Fees: None

  • Recommended Equipment: Tripod/monopod, wide to long lenses, polarizer and neutral-density filters

  • Other Supplies: Water, sunscreen, rain gear, walking stick (trails include some uneven ground)

  • Subjects: Covered bridge, dam with 30-foot waterfall, ruins of machinery and structures, waterscapes; maybe some birds too

  • Restrooms: Located (on the right) at the end of the walkway leading from the parking lot.

  • Terrain: Area includes pavement and packed earth, with some uneven ground and wooden steps.

  • Restriction: Professional photographers need a permit, so if you plan to sell photos, contact David Dunagan a week or so before the trip.

Once you turn into the park, go downhill to the stop sign and take a right. Continue further downhill, past the red Roswell Mill building on the right. Continue until you arrive at the big parking lot on the left. Look for a dark blue Honda with a canoe rack on top. Text or call Dunagan on his cell at 404-316-8894 if you have any problem with directions. After a 5- to 10-minute orientation in the parking lot, we’ll go down to the dam. if you’re running late, you can catch up with us there. This is going to be a spectacular and enjoyable outing!!
